JACQUELINE SCHWAB
Jacqueline's solo CD MAD ROBIN can be ordered from:
Midsummer Recordings
P.O. Box 380063
Cambridge MA 02238-0063

Jacqueline's recordings of Christmas Music Down Came an Angel and of Mark Twain's America can be found on the Dorian label www.dorian.com

Jacqueline creates variations on lilting dance tunes and haunting songs that evoke many moods. Her playing is flowing and romantic, with expressive melodies and rich harmonies. She draws on classical and traditional roots, mingling the sounds of Bach, Brahms and Bartok with Celtic airs, French waltzes and Argentine tangos. Traditional English dance tunes are her hallmark.

"...brilliant pianist..." - The Boston Globe

Jacqueline's solo improvisations on traditional American songs have been featured on seven of Burns' PBS' series, including the Grammy award-winning The Civil War, his recent works, Lewis and Clark and Frank Lloyd Wright, and the Emmy award-winning Baseball. Jacqueline has recorded music for several other documentaries, including The Irish in America. Her solo improvisations on traditional tunes were also recently heard on two MasterCard television commercials airing during the 1998-99 season--one on baseball on the other featuring a family reunion during the holidays.

"....singular in its folksy elegance..." - The Philadelphia Enquirer

In addition to her solo work, Jacqueline regularly performs with the quartet Bare Necessities, best known for their remarkable performances of English dance music. Their spontaneous, dramatic arrangements weave harmony lines that are never twice the same. They perform at dances and concerts throughout the United States. Their first recording (on Rounder/Varrick) has been used on PBS and BBC soundtracks. Their second (on Flying Fish) was selected by the Boston Globe among its ten best folk recordings of 1991.

"...liberal sweeps of improvisation which gives them a sound unlike any other on either side of the Atlantic." -The Boston Globe

Jacqueline has accompanied traditional fiddlers Alasdair Fraser and Jay Ungar and singers Jean Redpath, Molly Mason, Lui Collins and Dillon Bustin. She also performs with fiddler Andrea Hoag and bassist Charlie Pilzer, with singer Jeanne Morrill and with the dance music ensemble Renaissonics.

Jacqueline has researched eighteenth century English dance music and reconstructed country dances from period sources. She accompanies many types of dance, and she teaches piano, improvisation and English country dance.
